Subject: Information please!

I would like information relative to the construction of the coil(s) which

you manufacture for your mobile screwdriver antennas.

I currently own, (though it is retired in an inoperative state), a High

Sierra.  The windings will not remain stationary after a short amount

of use, and bind into a large knot.  The owner of that firm says that

it is all my fault, though he manufactured and repaired this unit, AND

a number of people I know have had the same difficulty.

My question(s):  How is your winding secured?  (I assume that you have

grooved a phenolic or other material?  Has the wire been epoxied or

otherwise been permanently affixed in place to preclude the problems

experienced with your competitor?)

Are auto tuners useable on this device?

I do not wish to grease your palm for another useless rock, <smile>.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Hi Walter,

The NEW Hi-Q-5/1.8-30 RT EX is the HAM version of the Submarine antenna.

On my mil. site you can see the BLUE antenna as it is ONLY 54 inches tall or less than 1.5 M  and has a 3/8-24 bolt hole for a long whip or caphat for greater radiation Efficiency.

It is -15 dBi without any whip @ 160 M and with a 3 M whip as low as -3 dBi.

BTW: In a few weeks I'am also 70 years old.

Subject: WA4EQW.. Received HiQ-4/80

Wow Charlie.

I got it in todays mail.  What a beautiful engineering job... I put it up this afternoon in place of my kj7u and so far havn't had a single report less than 5 9... Sat in with a bunch of old fogies (like me) in Texas and another guy Guatamala (tg9nx) all on 80.  I have NEVER had consistent reports like that.  I am using a full 102" un-pruned whip on top of the coil and can tune up to 21.5 mHz fine.  I'm using my aluminum roof for the ground plane.  I thought I was doing pretty well before but hey...what'd I know!

Thank you, thank you

Charlie

I really dont care if you liked my message or not !!

1. I have spent three weeks on the phone with you, sending my old motor back to you only to receive a wrong motor, very poor service on your part !!!  You have ignored my email, made excuses, and now the true ass hole you are comes out !
2. I have probably done more to promote your product than anyone you have ever had (there are even 4 locally, at least 22 nationally that I know of due to my efforts on my part)
3. I have NEVER hit anything with this antenna so anything that was wrong with it is your poor design -- not my problem -- yes it has over 200K miles on it, but I never read anything in your literature to say it would not last years nor miles !!  Just like your claim to fame on power -- this is the third one from you -- yes you dont remember the ones burned up arcing through the lexan because you dont track your customers -- flying by the seat of your pants
4. SO you just put it where the sun dont shine and I assure you that you will never hear from me again, and I will make sure all my friends and contacts know the poor business man you truly are --
I am 62, been a Ham for 48 years and know what I am doing -- its obvious you dont !

And I say -- screw you Charlie !

Sue Me as I would love to meet you in court

Hi Roger,

I did not like you phone message!!!

Got here on FRIDAY, repaired it on the w/e sent it back on Monday. (Sure is a ROTTEN service by Hi-Q)!!

I repaired the antenna, it was PITTIFULLY abused!
You have used it with a cracked coil (You Had to really HIT something hard to crack it)!! If the crack was evident, then it was time to remove it for repair, not letting water accumulate inside of it and let it ROT.

Thousands of our antennas out there all over the world and this one the worst one I've seen.

It is repaired FREE, shipped back ( NO  zip code given by you).

Hello Mr.Charlie,
I'll start by saying I have owned two of your antennas. The first was a 5\80 bought used from a trucker in Douglasville, GA. I don't know how long it was on his truck but it was on mine for about one year (155,000 miles). I sold it to another trucker, KG4RJU, who for the first time got to make some DX contacts while mobile.
The second was a brand new 5\160 which of course was bought from you. It went on my truck the same day I got it and I went straight to 160. 1868 khz to be exact. I made many contacts on 160 while making about 75 MPH. That was two Hi-Q antennas from two sources and both proved to be excellent antennas.
Now I am interested in your new 6 inch design if it is available for hams to purchase. I may have overlooked it but I did not see the price info. on the website. If it is available I would appreciate a current price list showing the 6 inch coil diameter antennas and the "EX" antennas.

Thank you, Billy

P.S. Thanks for the great antennas.

Hi Charlie.
Well it's been a little over 2 weeks now since I have had the 4/80 up and all I can say is that is has been a remarkable experience.  I won't go into minute detail but I must tell you that dx has for a large part been calling ME!  That has NEVER happened before.  Yes I'm using 450 watts but across the pond on 80 with a center loaded whip?  from G's to SM's to HB9's  in the East and to VP6DX  on Ducie Island in the South Pacific (a genuine 5/9 both ways on 3799.8/3781 split).  No need to give you further updates Charlie or else folks will think I'm working for you.  Let me assure them, I have no axe to grind,  I just love the performance that this antenna is proving to me in a stealth fixed location.  Is it possible to load this antenna to 160 with a base loaded tuner?

Pat... wa4eqw

Hi Pat,

Thank you for the report. You are not alone!
To load it on 160M you need an additional 250 + uH loading coil, it can be installed on the top of the existing coil.
I do not make those anymore, sorry.

Hei Charlie

First I am very imprest, u have made a master piece off i mobile antenna.

Hope you find my installation ok, sin you antenne the master piece of mobile antenna.

The commentary I get on air, are like this, are you realy mobil, I have never copy a mobil station so load on top band.

It was not nesesary to use shunt coill, I have SWR as love as 1.3 at 160m, and the same or bether on the other band as well. That are just fantastic, the controller from BetterRF have non problem to tune the antenna on every band.

Yes I am very happy with my 5/160 SS, the antenna are worth evry cent.

If u find some pic interessere , I cant mail them to u in bigger size.

Charlie,

Well it arrived today, I want to say thank you! Now I understand why you can call the other so called antennas "contraptions" this is the first Hi-Q antenna iv'e seem in person and compared to the tarheels and high sierras i've seen, this is a work of art and craftmanship. Everything else always appears to have been made in someones basement.

It truly exceeded my expectation, Once again thank you!

Charlie,

Haven't had time til now to thank you for the very fine service in getting

the 4-80 to me on such short notice. I also can't thank you enough for

sending it next-day at your cost....service like that is a very rare thing

indeed.

I got the antenna installed on the mount the afternoon I got it. All of

the preliminary work I had done paid off handsomely...the 4-80 functioned

like a champ from the beginning...I didn't even have to tweak the matching

inductor form my experiments and setup with the hamstick...I had a quick

QSO on 80 within an hour of opening the package.

I left Vegas for Victoria, TX next morning. I had a great time mobiling,

and the antenna worked so well..what a blast.

The antenna is now in use on the balcony of the apartment we are renting,

and it works well there too! What a great product.

Again, thank you, and take care,

Jeff
