Letters to Hi-Q-Antennas
| ADDED February 03, 2008 |
The following letters were sent to HI-Q Antennas:
Subject: Information please!
I would like information relative to the construction of the coil(s) which
you manufacture for your mobile screwdriver antennas.
I currently own, (though it is retired in an inoperative state), a High
Sierra. The windings will not remain stationary after a short amount
of use, and bind into a large knot. The owner of that firm says that
it is all my fault, though he manufactured and repaired this unit, AND
a number of people I know have had the same difficulty.
My question(s): How is your winding secured? (I assume that you have
grooved a phenolic or other material? Has the wire been epoxied or
otherwise been permanently affixed in place to preclude the problems
experienced with your competitor?)
Are auto tuners useable on this device?
I do not wish to grease your palm for another useless rock, <smile>.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Hi Walter,
The NEW Hi-Q-5/1.8-30 RT EX is the HAM version of the Submarine antenna.
On my mil. site you can see the BLUE antenna as it is ONLY 54 inches tall or less than 1.5 M and has a 3/8-24 bolt hole for a long whip or caphat for greater radiation Efficiency.
It is -15 dBi without any whip @ 160 M and with a 3 M whip as low as -3 dBi.
BTW: In a few weeks I'am also 70 years old.

Subject: WA4EQW.. Received HiQ-4/80
Wow Charlie.
I got it in todays mail. What a beautiful engineering job... I put it up this afternoon in place of my kj7u and so far havn't had a single report less than 5 9... Sat in with a bunch of old fogies (like me) in Texas and another guy Guatamala (tg9nx) all on 80. I have NEVER had consistent reports like that. I am using a full 102" un-pruned whip on top of the coil and can tune up to 21.5 mHz fine. I'm using my aluminum roof for the ground plane. I thought I was doing pretty well before but hey...what'd I know!
Thank you, thank you

Hei Charlie
First I am very imprest, u have made a master piece off i mobile antenna.
Hope you find my installation ok, sin you antenne the master piece of mobile antenna.
The commentary I get on air, are like this, are you realy mobil, I have never copy a mobil station so load on top band.
It was not nesesary to use shunt coill, I have SWR as love as 1.3 at 160m, and the same or bether on the other band as well. That are just fantastic, the controller from BetterRF have non problem to tune the antenna on every band.
Yes I am very happy with my 5/160 SS, the antenna are worth evry cent.
If u find some pic interessere , I cant mail them to u in bigger size.

Charlie,
Well it arrived today, I want to say thank you! Now I understand why you can call the other so called antennas "contraptions" this is the first Hi-Q antenna iv'e seem in person and compared to the tarheels and high sierras i've seen, this is a work of art and craftmanship. Everything else always appears to have been made in someones basement.
It truly exceeded my expectation, Once again thank you!

Charlie,
I am a bit pressed for time before leaving Vegas for Texas (Feb 26th
departure). What is availability of 5-80RT or even the 3-80RT?
Thanks,
Jeff

Charlie,
Haven't had time til now to thank you for the very fine service in getting
the 4-80 to me on such short notice. I also can't thank you enough for
sending it next-day at your cost....service like that is a very rare thing
indeed.
I got the antenna installed on the mount the afternoon I got it. All of
the preliminary work I had done paid off handsomely...the 4-80 functioned
like a champ from the beginning...I didn't even have to tweak the matching
inductor form my experiments and setup with the hamstick...I had a quick
QSO on 80 within an hour of opening the package.
I left Vegas for Victoria, TX next morning. I had a great time mobiling,
and the antenna worked so well..what a blast.
The antenna is now in use on the balcony of the apartment we are renting,
and it works well there too! What a great product.
Again, thank you, and take care,
Jeff
